Unique ID

Make sure to maintain a clean unique ID for each object
Contacts : use an email or a phone number (use the E.164 phone number format) or a linkedin URL
Deals : make sure a deal is associated to a Company and to a Contact
Companies : make sure you have a clean domain or a business legal number or a linkedin company page URL

Avoid duplicates

using the HubSpot Duplicates feature (or the Operations hub)
or using a tool like Koalify (https://koalify.io)
